If you have skills for programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, then you can get a pretty penny offering your services to a wide range of customers, and it can cost very little to get started.

If you’re an online marketer, then having some design skill under your belt can save you a fortune in the long run, as you can design your own advertisements and make adjustments and add promotions without having to pay someone to do it for you, over and over again.

Where Can You Sell Your Design Work?

The most obvious place to sell on would be sites like Fiverr and UpWork, and whilst they are definitely the easiest sites to get set up on, profits can be small.

However, millions of people compete on Fiverr and similar sites and struggle to make much at all. You could make a lot more money from reaching a smaller customer base through your own website or Facebook page. This can allow you to benefit through repeat customers and word of mouth (something less likely to happen when freelancing on Fiverr or similar sites).

There’s so many different types of design work that you could get into and make a profit from. From images that can be used on websites, to business cards, logos, advertisements, web banners, leaflets and so on.

Not only are you able to offer your designs to other businesses for a fee, but digital marketers and entrepreneurs often take some time to learn a bit about graphic design out of a necessity of building websites, blogs, brands, and other marketing materials. It saves thousands in the long run of having to hire someone to do most of it for you.

What you’re able to do will depend on what type of software you are able to use. For instance, if you know how to use Photoshop extensively, then you’ll have more options of work you can choose to offer than someone who only knows the basics.

Likewise, if you’re very good with Adobe Illustrator, then creating logo’s and graphics is likely going to be something you could offer.

What Can You Design?

T-Shirts: Website’s such as RedBubble, Amazon Merch and CafePress allow you to upload designs and get paid royalties on sales. This allows you to start with no overheads.

Advertisements: Many businesses are in need of design work for leaflets, business cards, advertisements and brochures.

Websites: Building a website involves lots of design work. Images optimised for the right places and sizing, as well as looking visually appealing, are in high demand and can often command a worthwhile price when sold as part of a package.

Graphics and Logos: Vector graphics and logos which can be scaled to any size are another form of design work sought after by many entrepreneurs and businesses.

Product Packaging: With the popularity of private labelling, a higher demand of original, eye-catching product packaging has come with it. Combining a knowledge of marketing and design can lead to success in this area.
